Your goal is to write the person a brief letter with some feedback. You will be writing and responding to this reading or video; you will also devote time to discussing your insights with your classmates and responding to their insights regarding the topic. Choose a classmate who does not yet have feedback. In your letter, be sure to also address the three concerns the student had about his/her/their draft. You are not grading the student's essay; just give him or her your honest feedback on the draft. You should not comment on grammar or mechanics for this peer review. Be sure to follow the peer review guidelines found in the discussion materials. Responses must be at least 150 words long. o Sample Response Posts: Example 1: I heard... You seem to be very dedicated to your schoolwork and exercise as self-discipline is hard for anybody at any age. I noticed... Upon reading your essay draft, one of the things that really stood out to me was admitting that you get anxiety and negative when it comes to the work as many are afraid to admit that. I wondered... After reading your essday draft I'm wondering how do you stick to your schedule when something unexpected comes up when you need to be exercising your schoolwork? Do you plan around it, reallocate your time, or prioritize schoolwork and execise before anything else? 1. The part of the essay that really stood out to me was the fact you stated in the first sentence where less than 5% of adults get the recommened daily amount of exercise. That honestly surprised me. 2. I find the organization of your essay to be good, the only thing I would really suggest is swapping the places of paragraph 2 and 3. 3. I would like to see you add how you would handle challenges such as you sleeping in, or you forgot to complete some assignment. How would you get around those obsticles? Good essay draft! Example 2: I HEARD... This essay seems like it is about the Pomodoro technique and how it helped you complete your schoolwork with very little to no distractions in intervals of time. I NOTICED... the way you did trial and error with your work situation and ultimately coming to the Pomodoro technique was very nice. I feel the first paragraph you introduced more of the technique more than the actual habit you tried to apply to your life. Your habit is something I also struggle with, so it was very interesting to see my problems from another point of view. I love your work to break ratio and how you made it work for yourself. I feel you concentrated more on the technique than the actual habit and details. If I had written this essay I wouldn't have changed a lot except for adding more details on how you actually got into the habit from personal experience. I also feel the reward should be something a little greater than just a piece of candy, I don't know if you have any gaming console but maybe try after you do the work you play a little of your game. Example 3: I heard... I think your essay was amazing. I loved how you explained your points and the reason why you chose exercising as a habit. I noticed... You gave a lot of background as to why you chose your habit. I think it was clear since you stated you were in the military. In the military, the training is extensive, and exercising was a habit for you in the past. You stated that you want to exercise because it will benefit you for college, and it is true. I agreed on many points you wrote. I wondered... I did not have any questions when I finished reading your paper because I think you were precise. I understood everything. When I was reading your paper, it made me think of the importance of working out and how it will benefit me. If your purpose was persuading your readers to consider exercising too, you were successful with me. I am still learning the writing process, but I found your paper very interesting and with no errors. 1. Is my writing clear and concise enough? I think your writing was clear. You gave a lot of information briefly and comprehensively. 2. Is my grammar correct? As to my knowledge, I did not see any grammar errors. 3. Do my paragraphs introduce information properly? Yes, your paragraphs introduced information properly for me. I think you have a strong essay, and you said you are a good reader but not a very good writer. Reading is a good and useful tool to improve your writing. I believe that you have a good tool to be an excellent writer. Discussion Guidelines • Your initial post should be posted by Friday; you will lose 1 point for each day the initial post is late. • Be sure to proofread your paper for sentence structure, clarity, typos, etc. • For this discussion, you only need to respond to one student. • In this course, we use the Peace and Justice Principles from the Peace and Justice Institute as guidelines for discussion. Discussion Criteria for Success: I grade your discussion posts on three areas: how well you engage with your classmates in discussion, how well-developed your response is, and how organized your response is. I do not grade your discussion posts for grammar. Just as in a classroom, this is a space where what matters most is your ability to communicate your viewpoints and ideas in respectful ways that align with the PJI principles.
